Christopher Columbus Statue Removal
So, I'm not entirely sure whether this topic relates to this class specifically. For the most part, I do think it relates to this class because "in 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue" to the Americas. In this class, we have talked a lot about people settling into the United States and Columbus was one of those. He was not an American native. So what am I trying to report?
Recently AKA 4 days ago, the city of San Jose had a statue of Christopher Columbus removed from City Hall. San Jose has a long history of Native Americans residing here since the beginning of time and they were unfortunately, later displaced. Ohlone Native Americans are just one example of a Native American tribe originally from the Santa Clara County area. As history has now shown, Christopher Columbus was not the first to find the United States. It has been pointed out that it is quite likely that the Chinese were the first to discover the United States, but did not settle because they already politically and economically number one at the time. I am talking about WAY back when. So that statue of Christopher Columbus is being removed carefully, weighed, and transported to an Italian American Heritage Foundation in San Jose.
