First Blog Adventure
Ahhh. There is nothing like the first week of the semester, full of optimism and motivation. I am excited about this class because I am second-generation Salvadorian American and third-generation Mexican American. Recent events have unfolded as the Trump Administration has lifted protection that was once in place for Salvadorians who have sought asylum in the United States, "a move that could leave more than 200,000 immigrants who have lived in the US more than 15 years without any legal status..." (Kopan, CNN). These Salvadorians have had temporary protected status and now they have 18 months to make arrangements to some how become legal citizens, plan to go back to El Salvador, or to seek asylum in other countries. The administration's argument for making such a detrimental decision is that the United States tends to continuously allow extensions to refugees and illegal immigrants after their two-year stay. The administration wants to have more control and have people go through a legal process rather than an illegal one. We, unfortunately, have to anticipate the same protections being removed from many other ethnic groups.
